Dongfeng FengGuang Mini EV envied the success of China’s best-selling electric city and copied it

In March 2020, the consortium of SAIC, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling, which trades vehicles under the name Wuling, introduced its first electric car, the Hongguang Mini EV. The commercialization of the tiny electric model in China started on July 24, 2020, and its sales were extremely good, as the price of the model ranges from only 28,800 yuan (€ 3,439) and reaches up to 38,800 yuan (€ 4,655), with the electric urban model is proving particularly popular in the Chinese market.

This is exactly the success that Dongfeng envied and introduced the FenGuang Mini EV. Despite the similarities in design, specifications and name, the two vehicles are unrelated, as the Wuling and Dongfeng are competing brands. As you can see, the Dongfeng FenGuang Mini EV adopts a two-volume silhouette with vertical sides and rear end, in order to make the most of its compact footprint. The length of the car is 2,995 mm, the width is 1,495 mm. and the height to 1,640 mm, with a wheelbase reaching 1,960 mm, with these numbers slightly larger than its main competitor.

In terms of transmission, the FengGuang Mini EV carries a 25 kW (34 hp) electric motor, which seems to be enough for a light vehicle to be used in urban environments. As you can guess, the FengGuang Mini EV electric motor is slightly more powerful than the HongGuang Mini EV, which delivers 20 kW (27 hp). What we do not yet know is the battery specifications and the estimated range of the Dongfeng model.

Sales of the FengGuang Mini EV will start in the first quarter of 2022 with an affordable price, which is expected to start at around € 4,300.
