Donald Trump supporters worry about discrimination against whites

A survey covering more than 300 social, political and psychological issues and topics was published by Project Home Fire in partnership with the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, United States. Of the respondents, 1,001 people were supporters of Donald Trump and 1,011 of Joe Biden. The survey – carried out online from July 22 to August 4 – shows the multiple concerns of Republican sympathizers: 84% of them “Fear that discrimination against whites will dramatically increase over the next few years”. The pro-Trump are also bothered by the fate of Christianity.

According to the commentary accompanying the survey results, “American racial and ethnic politics have reached their breaking point”. The country is split in two: on the one hand, Joe Biden’s voters see systemic racism as a serious problem; on the other hand, supporters of Donald Trump fear an increase “considerable” discrimination against white people in the coming years.

Pro-Trump feel threatened by immigration

The concerns of some Republicans do not end there. They believe that “Immigration appears to be one of the main problems”. For only 49% of them, Hispanics and Asians are discriminated against, while 87% of Democrats believe it is.

The poll highlights the anxieties lurking behind these numbers: “Trump voters fear they will suffer personally, socially, culturally and economically from the effects of immigration”, can we read in the comments.

A large part of pro-Trump also doesn’t care about protecting the rights of LGBT + people: only 39% of Republicans do, compared to 80% of Democrats. This trend is also found with regard to the rights of religious and sexual minorities.
