Domažlice Hospital will reserve most beds for coronavirus patients

Patients without infectious disease will be taken over from Domažlice by hospitals in Klatovy and Stod as well as by the University Hospital in Pilsen. NPK will thus increase the number of beds for patients with coronavirus by several tens, NPK spokesman Jiří Kokoška told ČTK today. The group is thus preparing for a further increase in patients with covid-19.

“Patients do not have to deal with the change of regime at all. Each of the hospitals will provide all outpatient and inpatient care for everyone and provide possible transport in their own cars,” the spokesman said.

“In the current regime of hospitals, where each provides the full range of covid and non-civic care, we are already on the edge of capacity. The establishment of a specialized hospital with covid to save the region from a similar scenario that occurred in the Karlovy Vary region, “said the head of regional hospitals Marek Kýhos.

According to him, Domažlice Hospital has extensive experience with covid care from the spring and autumn waves of the pandemic. “It has excellent facilities for intensive care, including ARO beds, and has a suitable geographical location for transports to Stoda and Klatovy,” said Kýhos. It now has three 43-bed stations reserved for covid patients, seven of which are monitored at the ARO / ICU department; they are almost always full. In the middle of next week, there will be over 80 covid beds in Domažlice and up to 100 in the following days, as needed, of which 20 will offer intensive care. Five will be equipped with artificial lung ventilation and 15 with non-invasive breathing support. If the situation worsens further, the hospital can offer up to 136 covid beds.

The first stage of the transformation began from Friday to Saturday. “The admission of non-periodic surgical patients for hospitalization has been stopped. We are examining them in our outpatient clinic, which will continue to operate on a continuous basis. If the treatment is sufficient, we will perform it and release the patient,” said hospital director Petr Hubáček. If hospitalization is necessary, it will be determined whether the patient is positive and will either stay in Domažlice or be transported elsewhere.

The second stage will be the discharge or transfer of non-oviduous surgical patients to other hospitals at the beginning of the week. This will free up the inpatient station of surgery A, where 20 covid beds will be created. They will be occupied by covid + patients from Domažlice, Tachovsko, Klatovy and Stod. It will be the same in the third and fourth stages with internal patients, which will add another 20 covid beds to internal B from 25 February. The next stages would concern the pediatric department, gynecology and, in extreme cases, follow-up care and maternity hospital. “The operation of reception and specialized clinics will be maintained in our hospital without restrictions for all patients,” said Hubáček.

Both Klatovy and Stodská hospitals from the NPK group will continue to hospitalize covid patients. However, they will no longer increase the number of beds. Covid stations will, if possible, release for disease-free patients.
