Every year, on the eve of the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance of the victims of Srebrenica, the issue of condemnation and punishment of that crime is raised more intensively in the public throughout the region.
The Sarajevo portal Klix, referring to unofficial information, writes that the outgoing High Representative Valentin Inzko has broken and that he will declare the “Law on Genocide Denial” valid by August 1.
The political leaders of BiH could never agree on that, the portal reminds us, and everything, as they say, always ended in “failed attempts”.
– Although the imposition is unpopular and high representatives have not used this mechanism for years, the adoption of this law will mean that no one in BiH, especially politicians, will be allowed to publicly deny what the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia found in The Hague – Klix writes.
By passing the law, it is added, public denial or glorification of genocide will automatically be the subject of the state prosecutor’s office, and the envisaged sentences are from six months to five years in prison.
“The Law on Denial of Genocide would prosecute all those who name streets or institutions after war criminals, put up plaques in honor of war criminals or award recognitions to such persons, draw murals or in any other way glorify criminals and deny that genocide against Bosniaks took place. people in July 1995 ”.
The portal reminds that in four days, marking the anniversary of the crime in Srebrenica, and that Inzko, who has promised several times so far, did not impose such a law. Klix writes that for Inzko, this is an opportunity that, by passing a law banning genocide denial, he can, as they say, “facilitate” the work of his successor Christian Schmidt a little.
By the way, Inzko will leave the post of High Representative in BiH on August 1.
