Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat: the most brutal SUV

720 hp, 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and up to 3,946 kg of towing capacity

When it comes to high performance overseas, there is a well-known formula that immediately evokes adrenaline: SRT Hellcat. Some exclusive Dodge models use it, such as muscle cars Charger e Challenger. But as of now there is a new member of this family high-performance: the Durango.

With its inclusion in this selection of sports cars, the US maxi SUV automatically becomes the wildest in the world, a privilege so far attributed to the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. To achieve this, the engineers of the US sports division of Dodge mounted the Durango SRT Hellcat the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that also pushes its younger sisters, albeit slightly vitaminized to position themselves above them in terms of performance.

720 hp

Thanks to some modifications made on certain components of the powertrain, on the volumetric compressor and on the ECU, the eight-cylinder heart is able to deliver in this case up to 720 hp, with a maximum pair of 875 Nm, that is to say 3 CV more than the aforementioned Trackhawk. All this power is sent to the four wheels through the eight-speed automatic transmission and the four-wheel drive system. In this way the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat reaches the speed of 60 mph (96 km / h) in 3.5 seconds, reaches 290 km / h and covers the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds. Not to mention that this high-performance SUV can tow up to 3,946 kg.

Modified chassis

A great deal of engineering work has been done on the chassis of the original Durango, which has been given greater rigidity and a specific configuration. The sports suspension lowers the center of gravity and the bodywork and the 20-inch wheels are wrapped in tires Pirelli Scorpion Zero. The brake system is signed Brembo and mounts 401 mm discs in front with six-piston calipers and 551 mm discs with 4-piston calipers to the rear train.

Threatening look

Aesthetically the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat shows the muscles with enlarged wheel arches, enlarged air intakes, a honeycomb front grille, specific hood, rear wing and exhaust system with double terminals. Inside there are sport seats covered in Nappa leather with logos Hellcat, specific steering wheel, redesigned dashboard and infotainment system with 10.1-inch touch screen.
