DLVR, a novelty in Raptor Lake promises a quarterly reduction in consumption

This involves the use of the voltage clamp method via the DLVR located in parallel with the primary power circuits (ie those on the motherboard), which should result in a reduction in the VID voltage of the processor, and thus its consumption. This is a reduction of up to 160 mV, and thus about 20 to 25% reduction in consumption. The whole patent is to available for study here, and we can add that the whole method of modifying the processor power should be relatively simple and inexpensive to implement.

In principle, the point is that the power supply system does not supply the processor with more than the amount of power really needed, and according to Intel, there is even the possibility to save on the VR specifications of the board itself, so its power supply system would not be so robust.

At the same time, Intel currently has desktop processors on the market, which already form a dignified competition for AMD, but what is lagging behind is the excessive consumption, which means higher operating costs, motherboard acquisition and a powerful cooling system. That is, anything that can significantly reduce the consumption of future Raptor Lake processors will certainly be warmly welcomed.
