He was speaking as the chief guest while participating in a city dialogue on ‘Dhaka Drainage Management and Canal Modernization’ at the CIRDEP auditorium here today.
“We go to Venice, Singapore or Santosa to enjoy the beauty,” he said. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has dreamed of building such a city. To fulfill this dream of the Prime Minister, I am working relentlessly with the two mayors of Dhaka North and South City Corporation.
He said an initiative has been taken to transform Dhaka into a livable modern and scenic city by launching Wata Transport from Hatirjheel to Banani and United Hospital and a project is being taken to make this a reality. With this initiative, all the experts including urban planners and architects have been included, he said, adding that it is possible to build many elephant lakes in Dhaka city which are not a single elephant lake. The Minister sought the cooperation of all in this regard.
The local government minister and DAP convener said plans should be made according to the demographic size, ie how many people will live in the city. In this connection, he said, arrangements have been made for the accommodation of 1 million people in Purbachal. But if 5 million people live there, it will no longer be habitable.
Mentioning that the mayors of the two city corporations have already started eviction work after taking charge of the canal, he said that the building has been constructed on it by making fake documents and occupying the canal. Necessary action will be taken according to the law no matter how powerful those who have done this are. He also mentioned that the canals of Dhaka city will be rescued with everyone. Tajul Islam.
The minister said waste is one of the problems of Dhaka city. Waste management work has been started since the Minister took charge to solve this. The decision to generate electricity from waste was taken in the light of the experience of different countries and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved it. He said that the work of power generation from waste has started and if it is started, there will be a radical change in waste management. He also commented that effective steps are being taken in waste collection at this time.
