Despite the onset of cold weather, the ice on urban water bodies in some places is still not strong enough to support the weight of a human body. That is why the Daugavpils municipality reminds the townspeople of the ban on going out on the ice now, which was introduced on December 9 last year.
According to forecasts of weather forecasters, in the middle of this week in Daugavpils it can get colder up to -20 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, after just a few days, the thermometer will again rise to -5 degrees and above.
In changeable weather, ice on water bodies can be uneven and pose a threat to human life and health. Therefore, the townspeople are asked not to risk their own health and their lives in vain, and parents are encouraged to talk with their children, explaining the possible consequences of games on fragile ice.
The Municipal Police monitors the observance by Daugavpil residents of the prohibition to go out on the ice. At the same time, the thickness of ice on urban water bodies is estimated by specialists from the Department of Public Utilities.
