Design Museum in London puts Indian saris in the spotlight with an exhibition

The Indian traditional garment, the sari, has been given a special place in the Design Museum in London. The garment is central to the exhibition ‘The Offbeat Sari’. In total there are more than 60 examples of traditional and contemporary saris on display in the museum.

The exhibition zooms in on how designers, wearers and artisans give new life to the sari and how the garment is understood, designed and worn in contemporary culture. The sari has meanwhile been elevated to a fashion item and is also subject to trends and attitudes.

The exhibition is on view from 19 May to 17 September 2023 at the Design Museum in London. You can also take a digital look by means of the images below.
