The city administration of the city of Zajecar has announced Competition for the design of the urban-architectural solution Liberation Square in Zajecar. The starting point is to define the conceptual urban-architectural solution in the goal urban renovations of the central pedestrian zone of the city Zajecar, which improves the ambient value through the reconstruction of existing and the introduction of new facilities with an emphasis on the formation of public areas, respecting the principles of sustainable urban development.

Increasing the attractiveness of the settlement

The aim of the competition is to choose a quality urban-architectural solution of the Liberation Square and the accompanying part of the pedestrian zone of the city of Zajecar, which will functionally and ambientally improve the space. in a recognizable part of the settlement through the transformation and arrangement of public areas, which will increase the attractiveness of the settlement center for different groups of users.

The proposed solutions are expected to be functional, attractive, rational and suitable for the central city zone. Participants should examine possibility of relieving the center of the settlement from motor traffic in order to form a multipurpose square and pedestrian zone which increases the aesthetic value and forms a new environment that will be the center of social events and social contacts.

Scope of the competition

Fountain of 50 square meters

Mandatory program elements that must be implemented within the urban-architectural solution of the Liberation Square in Zajecar are the following:

  • Ground floor fountain of approximately 50m2, at the level of paving the pedestrian zone.
  • Above the newly designed fountain, in the ground floor between the museum building and commercial buildings, design a part of the parterre that will contain motifs of ancient Rome and with its content and character reminiscent of the palace of Felix Romuliana – archaeological site Gamzigrad and revive the feeling of ancient Rome in this part of the central pedestrian zone, and thus refer to the archaeological site near Zajecar
  • Paving the central pedestrian zone with an emphasis on the main directions of movement and paving Nikola Pašića Street with the aim of calming car traffic;
