Denon introduces the Home Sound Bar 550, a compact and state-of-the-art soundbar expandable by adding more wireless speakers

Denon has taken advantage of the pull of the CES 2021 to announce the launch of the Home Sound Bar 550, your new Sound bar mid-range with which they intend to conquer users looking for a model to the last in functionalities but compact in size and with the possibility of being expanded later by adding more speakers to form a more complete home cinema set.

With dimensions of 650 x 75 x 120mm, it is suitable for almost any type of television up to 65 inches, being able to install it on a piece of furniture or hanging directly from the wall, since it has the necessary anchors on the back.

Inside it mounts 4 full-range drivers with 55mm diameter more two 19mm main tweeters, each of them with its own dedicated amplifier (although they have not provided the power they offer), which are accompanied by 3 passive radiators with which to improve the response in low frequencies, not counting as standard with an external subwoofer, although we can later incorporate more speakers to achieve a more convincing sound.

A modular home cinema

Denon’s idea with this model is that we can buy the bar first and then add more wireless speakers from your HEOS range, which was also recently increased with several models intended to function as rear speakers in a 5.1 multichannel system or even Dolby Atmos y DTS:X, formats supported by this Home Sound Bar 550.

The bar can play PCM music files of up to 192kHz and 24-bit or DSD 5.6 that we have stored on the local network or on hard drives that we connect to a USB port, which is most useful for, for example, having our music collection directly accessible. Has WiFi, interfaz Bluetooth, AirPlay2, an Ethernet port and is compatible with Alexa with microphones built into the bar itself.

In addition, it has other interesting additional functions present in high-end models. For example thanks to a proximity sensor the control panel turns on automatically when we pass our hand over it illuminating the controls and making it easy for us to change the volume, turn off Alexa, skip the song, etc. at night without having to resort to turning on the light, using the remote or the mobile control application. It also has integrated software to control the bar from Control4, Crestron, URC and Elan systems, among others.

Regarding connectivity, to the aforementioned possibilities we must add two HDMI ports, one of them compatible with eARC, digital optical input and the aforementioned USB port to which to couple our memories with song lists.

Price and availability

Denon’s new Home Sound Bar 550 soundbar will go on sale in February for a price of 649 euros.
