Demand for tablets fell in the first quarter of 2022, says study

The confinement due to the pandemic forced the world population to stay in their homes. And as a way to spend the much time they had available, most people ended up buying various technological equipment, including tablets, for fun, and also for teleworking or teleschool.

But the data now revealed indicates that demand for tablets had a drop in the first quarter of this year 2022.

Fewer tablets were sold in the 1st quarter of this year

Due to the pandemic, in 2020 there was an exponential growth in the sale of technological equipment, such as computers, smartphones and tablets. However, in the first quarter of 2021, demand for tablets slowed down compared to the same period of the previous year, the year in which the COVID-19 pandemic began to emerge and was more expressed around the world.

And according to research carried out by the company IDC market analyst, a new drop in the tablet market was registered again in the first quarter of 2022. The details indicate that, from January to March of this year, 38.4 million tablets were sold worldwide, while in same period of 2021 this amount was 39.9 million. Therefore, we are talking about 1.5 million fewer tablets, which represents a drop of 3.9% in a year-over-year comparison.

This figure includes products from various brands, with Apple leading the sales table with 12.1 million units sold in the last quarter, 4.6% less than in 2021. Samsung ranks second, having sold 8 .1 million units and, in the case of the South Korean company, there was a growth of 3.5%. The third position is dominated by Amazon, with 3.7 million units sold (+6.3%).

In fourth place we find the Chinese Lenovo, which sold 3 million tablets, a drop of 25.9% compared to the same quarter last year. Huawei sold 2.2 million of these devices, down 17.2%.
