That’s according to a report from Yole Developpement. The share of DDR5 memories should start to increase in the next year 2022, first they will be used mainly in servers and the corporate sphere.
By 2023, the new standard should become more common among regular end users. We should see DDR5 in more and more computers, laptops and smartphones. This year, it should even account for more than half of the new technology, surpassing DDR4. Between 2024 and 2016, there should already be a significant adaptation with only 5% of the currently used DDR4 technology remaining.
Compared to DDR4, DDR5 will bring twice the speeds and also higher capacities of individual modules. The required voltage is also reduced from 1.2V to 1.1V. DDR5 memories will also contain on-die ECC protection.
