Resident of Daugavpil Andrzej Lebedev became the owner of the honorary sports award of Three Stars, which the Latvian Olympic Committee presents to the best athletes of the country.

Last Saturday, January 8, the awarding ceremony of the nominees for the Three Stars in Sports Awards took place in Riga. Among the winners was our renowned fellow countryman – a speedway driver Andrzej Lebedev, who received the honorary “Three stars” in the nomination “Sportsman of the Year in Technical Sports “.

Andrzej won the Three Star Award in a two-stage vote: first, more than 90 sports federations, organizations and journalists nominated themselves. and at the second stage, they gave their vote for one of the first three candidates on an invitation in each nomination.

As a result, the captain and leader of the Latvian speedway team Andrzej Lebedev became the best athlete, who last year contributed to historical successes not only for speedway, but for the entire Latvian motorsport in general, helping our team to reach the final of the Nations Cup and take 6th place in the world.

A beach volleyball player was among the winners of the Three Star in Sports Award Tina Graudin, won the title of “Sportswoman of the Year”, which is paired with Daugavpilchanka Anastasia Kravchenok just fell short of the podium at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, taking 4th place.

Tina herself, as part of the University of Southern California team, won the final tournament of the National University Sports Association (NCAA), becoming the first ever Latvian champion in beach and classic volleyball.

All in all Olympic Committee singled out the best Latvian athletes in 13 nominations. Following tradition, the President of the country received a special prize from the LOC for his lifelong contribution to sports. Egils Levits, who also attended the awards ceremony.
