At the last meeting of the Economic Committee the issue of city lighting in the private sector of Daugavpils was discussed. The idea of a dramatic improvement in the quality of lighting came up last summer, when specialists from the Communal Administration were instructed to summarize the current lighting situation, said Valery Kononov, head of the Economic Committee of the City Duma, in the Alise Plus radio program “Face the City”.
According to Valery Kononov, this is a new event for the city, and the deputies will decide the issue after a thorough economic analysis of the benefits of this project.
Within the framework of the project, not only the lamps themselves will be replaced, but also the infrastructure in the private sector of the city as a whole will be improved: this is the replacement of cables, lighting cabinets, lighting poles, etc. In a word, comprehensive measures will be taken.
– Our financiers will take everything very seriously and will give their opinion on the profitability of the project. Within two years we will be able to restore and improve at least 60-70% of our street lighting, of course, choosing priorities – this is primarily the private sector.
It is worth noting that there have not been such agreements in our city yet, but this type of cooperation – privātā partnerība (PPP) – is a private partnership, already used by our Lithuanian neighbors, ”said Valeriy Kononov.
Let’s hope that the townspeople, if the deputies make a decision, will soon see positive results, and the municipality will receive additional funds by saving lighting bills.
