The III International Competition of Young Singers of Christmas Songs is being held in Daugavpils for four days, in which about 2000 participants from 66 choirs, vocal ensembles and duets, as well as 81 soloists from fifteen countries: from Lithuania and Belarus to Sweden and the USA will demonstrate their vocal skills …

Since due to restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic this year, fans of Christmas music will not have the opportunity to personally enjoy the music performances of the contestants, the organizers provide an excellent alternative – starting from January 7, everyone will be able to watch the performances on the Youtube channel. Ā«Latvian ContestsĀ».

On Saturday 9 January, an international jury will judge the performances of all competitors. On-line, of course. The results of the competition are planned to be announced on Sunday, January 10th.

Contestants will be judged in several categories: traditional original Christmas song, folk Christmas song, sacred piece of the Christmas period and modern Christmas song.

The jury consists of eight vocal music experts from six countries: Latvia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland and Italy.

Initially, the competition was part of the popular International Festival of Sacred Music “Silver Bells”, which was usually held in Daugavpils in early January. Only over time, the Christmas Song Contest has become an equally popular independent event.

The international competition of young performers of Christmas songs is organized by the Department of Culture of the Daugavpils City Council in cooperation with the House of Unity.
