Czech trade unionists are on strike alert. Prime Minister Fiala does not understand them – World – News

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala declared after the tripartite negotiations that the government does not understand the strike alert declared by the unions. According to him, this is an irresponsible attitude that does not contribute to the dialogue, informs the correspondent of TASR in Prague.

“We don’t understand the union’s readiness to strike. We see this attitude as irresponsible and one that does not contribute to dialogue in society, which is necessary in this case,” said Fiala. According to him, trade unions should also share in the responsibility for the quality of life of citizens.

“The unions complain that the government does not negotiate with them… but they themselves declared a strike emergency even before the tripartite negotiations took place,” the Czech Prime Minister pointed out. He emphasized that this is not the first time that the trade unions chose demonstrations instead of dialogue. However, they have not announced them yet.

Ready to listen

The proposals that the government presented last week will now be processed in a legislative form, which will be followed by a comment procedure. Within it, trade unions and employers will also be able to comment on individual proposals.

“We are ready to listen to arguments where our decision contains some errors. But in principle, we remain in our positions in those fundamental matters,” said the prime minister. According to him, the government is convinced that the package of measures and the pension reform are a responsible and correct decision for the benefit of the citizens of the Czech Republic.

“It is the legitimate right of the unions to express how we view the current situation. It’s the right to assemble, to freedom of opinion,” Josef Středula, head of trade unions, responded to Fiala. “We have our opinion and we stand by that opinion,” he added.

He positively assessed that a representative of the Office of the President of the Republic participated in the tripartite meeting for the first time. According to him, it is an important signal for the future.

The Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (ČMKOS) declared a strike emergency with immediate effect on Monday. It was a reaction to the government’s package of austerity measures to reduce the state budget deficit. ČMKOS criticizes some specific measures that, according to them, will affect employees, and also the fact that the government did not consult with them about individual changes in advance.
