CROATIAN SHIPPING LINE BUILDS ELECTRICALLY POWERED SHIPS

The passenger fleet of the largest Croatian shipping company, Jadrolinija, will soon be modernized with electrically powered ships. This Company for Line and Sea Transportation of Passengers and Cargo announced on Monday a tender and started the public procurement procedure for the construction of three electrically powered passenger ships, with an estimated value of 45 million euros. construction will be co-financed from European funds.

As announced in the procurement documentation, it is a question of three passenger ships without the emission of harmful gases, i.e. electrically powered. The ships are intended for the transport of passengers and cargo, the individual capacity of which is 389 passengers, with eight crew members.

The basic drive of the boat is electric

In addition to general navigation, the ship should also be designed for the needs of navigation on the state shipping lines Mali Lošinj – Susak (310), Šibenik – Vodice (505) and Suđurađ – Dubrovnik (807).

The maximum length of the ship over all can be 52 meters, and the maximum width 12 meters.

The basic drive of the ship will be electric, with the use of electricity stored in batteries. The durability of the battery will be a minimum of eight years, with assumed operation on the national shipping line Suđurađ – Dubrovnik.

An additional source of electricity will be a photovoltaic power plant installed on the roof of the 90 square meter sun deck.

Reserve energy sources

For the safety of the ship and its passengers, backup energy sources, two diesel generators with exhaust emissions, will be installed in accordance with the IMO Tier III standard.

The ship must be designed, built and equipped in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Code, the Rules for the statutory certification of passenger ships in national navigation and other regulations, and the deadline for the submission of offers is February 22, 2023.

The published documentation states that Jadrolinija conducts a tender procedure with two-level negotiations, with the aim of concluding a framework agreement with one bidder and that a public procurement contract can be awarded based on the framework agreement.
