Covid-19. Red Cross starts ultra-fast PCR test

A pioneer in Portugal in the use of rapid antigen tests for covid-19, in September last year, the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP) now has available molecular tests with results in 15 minutes. Similar to the RT-PCR done in the laboratory, the ‘proof of nine’ for the detection of SARS-CoV-2, the new technique is already being evaluated by the National Institute of Health Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA), the institution responsible for validating the analytical methods of the national strategy for diagnosing the infection.

Produced by Abbott Laboratories, one of the leaders in the manufacture of rapid tests for the new coronavirus, the device (IDNOW) is portable, chargeable in a common socket and for some years it was used to screen for the presence of other viruses, such as influenza A, syncytial respiratory or HIV. At first glance, it almost looks like a drier for gel nail polish like those found in manicures.
