Covid-19: Madeira registers over 95 cases and raises total active infections to 1,284

Madeira today registered 95 new cases of covid-19, 45 recoveries and 287 suspicious situations, said the Regional Health Directorate, noting that the total number of active infections in the archipelago is now 1,284, with 61 people hospitalized.

Among the new cases, six are imported – two from the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, two from the United Kingdom, one from Spain and one from the Czech Republic – and 89 from local transmission, including a professional from the education sector identified in the screening in educational and teaching establishments in the municipality of Santa Cruz.

“There are 1,284 active cases, of which 138 are imported cases and 1,146 are cases of local transmission”, says the Regional Health Directorate, in a statement, clarifying that the autonomous region accounts for a total of 2,861 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic, already with 1,557 recovered.

The archipelago also records 20 deaths associated with the new coronavirus.

Regarding the isolation of active cases, 50 people are in a dedicated hotel unit, 1,173 in their own accommodation and 61 are hospitalized, seven of them in intensive care.

“In total, there are 287 new situations that are currently being studied by health authorities, all related to contacts with positive cases”, indicates the health authority, adding that 2,244 people are under active surveillance and 6,908 travelers are monitored through the application ‘MadeiraSafe’.

A pandemic covid-19 caused at least 1,945,437 deaths resulting from more than 90.8 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal, 8,080 people died from 496,552 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
