Covid-19. Despite the decrease in the number of cases, the mortality rate increases

Portugal registered 18,467 new cases of covid-19 and 44 deaths in the last week. If, on the one hand, the number of infections has decreased, the number of fatalities has increased.

According to the most recent document released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), regarding the data recorded between 23 and 29 August, the country recorded 750 fewer cases than the previous week, but five more deaths.

Despite the positive news regarding new cases, the mortality rate increased by 13%, with four deaths per million inhabitant.

It is also known that 470 people are hospitalized in Portuguese hospitals – 29 less than last week – and, of these, 36 are in intensive care – three less than last week.
