jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Professor of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said that currently there are more than 12 thousand cases of Covid-19, even though the Ministry of Health estimates that the peak of cases will occur at the end of June.

He explained five steps that need to be taken to curb this growing spread of Covid-19.

“The first is social restrictions, something that is absolutely necessary at this time,” said Prof. Tjandra in his statement, Friday (18/6).

With current developments, continued Tjandra, it is not possible to just continue the existing program, but there must be a real and clear increase in social restrictions.

Then, Tjandra also encouraged the government to increase testing and tracing.

“Both of these, the target indicator numbers are clear. It just remains to make sure that the implementation is evenly distributed in all districts/cities with clear commitments,” said Tjandra.

Furthermore, according to Tjandra, the government must make efforts to improve service facilities and the welfare of health workers.

“Not only isolation rooms and ICU, tools and drugs, other facilities and infrastructure, but the most important thing is the human resources of health workers who must be guaranteed to work safely,” he said.

The fourth effort that Tjandra calls is ensuring that data is accurate and always updated.

Analysis of this data, said Tjandra, must be carried out on the basis of good and wise knowledge to determine scientific-based public policies.

Lastly, Tjandra hopes that the vaccination rate can quickly reach the target because vaccination plays a role in controlling the pandemic and forming communal immunity.

“It should also be remembered that in order to determine how many people must be vaccinated in order to achieve communal immunity (herd immunity) it will depend on the reproduction rate of the disease and also the effectiveness of the vaccine,” he explained.(mcr9/jpnn)
