Cape Verdean health authorities have diagnosed 72 more infected with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing to 12,664 cases accumulated since March 19, according to data released today by the Ministry of Health.
In a statement, the ministry said that the virology laboratories in the archipelago have processed 776 samples since Wednesday, with the municipality of Praia, the country’s capital, confirming another 18 infected (out of 289 samples), with 154 active cases.
Still on the island of Santiago, cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed in the municipalities of Santa Catarina (8), São Domingos (1), São Miguel (1) and Santa Cruz (1).
On the island of São Vicente, 29 new infections were confirmed within 24 hours, currently the main focus of the disease in the archipelago, with 216 active cases.
The remaining confirmed positive cases were recorded on the islands of Fogo (8), Maio (4) and Santo Antão (2).
In the last 24 hours 89 infected people were recovered from the disease, with the cumulative total of deaths due to complications associated with covid-19 to remain at 115 and three due to external causes.
Thus, Cape Verde now has an accumulated of 12,664 cases of the disease since March 19, 2020 (when the first patient with covid-19 in the archipelago), distributed across all 22 municipalities of the nine inhabited islands of the archipelago, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
The archipelago now records 555 active cases of the disease and adds up to 11,989 considered recovered, while two infected, foreigners, were transferred to their countries of origin.
