The new Covid-19 outbreak in the country recorded five cases today, bringing the total cumulative outbreak to 8,648 cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the five reported cases, three of them were imported cases involving Malaysians returning from Qatar, Turkey and Oman.
He said the remaining two cases were related to local transmission and the two infections occurred in Kota Kinabalu and Ranau, Sabah involving locals.
“The active case with Covid-19 infection involves 81 cases and they have been isolated and treated,” he told a daily media conference on the latest development of Covid-19 in Putrajaya today.
Earlier, Dr Noor Hisham said, there were nine cases recovered from Covid-19 with a cumulative total case recovery and a ward charge of 8,446 cases, 97.66 per cent of the total cases.
“So far, only two positive Covid-19 patients have been treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two more patients need respiratory help,” he said.
He said no deaths related to Covid-19 infection were reported to the National Crisis Preparation and Emergency Center (CPRC), as of noon today.
He said it made the cumulative number of deaths due to outbreaks in the country to remain 121, 1.4 percent of the total number of cases.
