This oasis for reading, enjoying and watching games in the yard has a bench that allows you to sit both indoors and outdoors.
At the bottom of the yard, under the canopy of trees, which found their place there far before the house, a yard pavilion was erected according to the project of the Belgrade Unknown studio.
The zone is conceived and designed as a place to sit and enjoy, watch matches, read… For distancing oneself from the house and the work that has not at all subtly crept into everyone’s home, and the everyday obligations that the house represents.
“The structure of the garden pavilion represents a dislocation to a different environment, to a place that is not yet, as such, under the influence of everyday life.” – say the architects.
By opening the pavilion, it is transformed into a bench from the interior or from the exterior.
The pavilion has the possibility of opening to the yard and the house. With his opening, he transforms in a bench seat from the interior or from the exterior. In this way, the pavilion tends to identify with a small piece of greenery and erases the boundary between open and closed space.
The pavilion itself has in its widest zones four meters, and parts have been subtracted from the maximum size, in order to satisfy all the necessary functions, without violating the integrity of green areas.
The low window inside the pavilion is seen as a frame for an existing tree that emphasizes the unity of the user with the yard.
The pavilion and intervention zone has been raised to postament, with two stages of different materializations, which aim at the separation of the zone as a separate whole, and thus make it the antipode to itself – the aspiration to connect and separate at the same time.
The side entrance to the pavilion is partly glazed and its primary goal is making a connection. The low window inside the pavilion is seen as a shot for an existing tree, and subtly emphasizes this attempt. unity of users with the yard.
The complete whole and the story of one house and yard
This house in Cologne, Germany, to which the pavilion belongs, is quite old. During the Second World War, the house was affected, and then repaired and adapted, and then recently received an extension in wood paneling.
“This pavilion is the last in a series of interventions completes the whole and the story of one house and yard. Until some next reconstruction and until some next need. ” – conclude the architects.
