Contributing Large Dividends, DPR is Surprised to Hear Pawnshops Will Be Annexed

Suara.com – The government’s desire to form a holding within the Ministry of BUMN is currently the concern of many parties. One of them is to form a holding for SOEs engaged in microfinance.

It is no secret that the government plans to form a joint holding company between Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Pegadaian and PT Penanaman Modal Madani (PT PNM).

However, there is also another discourse that states that Pegadaian and PNM will be acquired by BRI. This is motivated by the reason for forming ultra-micro synergies.

On November 25, 2020, the PT Pegadaian Workers Union National Conference was held at the Bestwastern Solobaru Sukoharjo Hotel which was attended by trade union representatives from 13 DPD in various regions.

The result was that in essence the PT Pegadaian Workers Union could accept the government’s plan to carry out an ultra-micro synergy but refused in the form of merging Pegadaian with BRI and PT PNM.

“PT Pegadaian (Persero) is a healthy company, how come it wants to be annexed and the services (products) owned by Pegadaian are very specific with different customer cultures. It is known that pawnshops serve all levels of society up to the little people or remote villages,” said the Chairman of the DPP Workers Union. PT Pegadaian was elected, Ketut Suhardiyono was written on Tuesday (16/2/2021).

Meanwhile, Commission VI of the DPR RI will explore the plan of the Ministry of BUMN to form an ultramicro and UMKM financing holding through the merger of BRI, Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) and Pegadaian.

“Earlier we had a meeting with Pegadaian and PNM, we wanted to know what the true aspirations of Pegadaian and PNM were, what is their spiritual atmosphere in the middle of this corporate action plan,” said a member of Commission VI DPR RI, Mufti Anam, after a hearing (RDP) with Pegadaian, PNM, and BPUI.

Mufti said there were critical voices from internal Pegadaian and PNM who rejected the plan to merge the three large BUMN business entities.

“I hear that there are critical voices from within who are not comfortable with the merger of these three business entities. Moreover, Pegadaian and PNM are in good business, their performance is very good, in fact. Pegadaian is even one of the largest state-owned companies contributing dividends to the country,” he said.
