Conflicts during certificate validation are becoming more common

Recently, various provocateurs against security guards in shopping centers and other public places have become especially active, Raivis Terinks, chairman of the board of Koblenz drošība, told LETA.

According to him, now conflicts of various kinds with employees of the security company occur often, even much more often than before the introduction of covid certificates.

“There are often conflicts or accusations that an adult with a certificate cannot take a child over 12 years old with him to the store without a certificate,” Terinks said. In addition, there are accusations of not letting in a child who has a certificate but no ID.

Also, there are often people who want to use not a passport or ID-card, but a driver’s license or other document in the form of an identity document, Terinx admitted.

“People who have received only one vaccine often try to enter, and therefore the certificate does not work, and the person tries to convince that he is vaccinated. There are also attempts to show test results, self-test results or something else. And after refusing to skip part people become aggressive and loudly express emotions – they call the security guards, the store or the government names, “said the head of Koblenz drošiba.

According to him, usually claims are limited to verbal accusations, writing complaints to shops or to the leadership of the guards, but there are also conflicts with the use of force, there have been attacks on both guards and hospital staff.

There is also a separate category of residents whom Terinks called “shoplifters.” “Those who try to get into the premises at speed or with the help of fraud: run into the store and hide between the shelves, enter through the service entrance, impersonate a supplier or store employee, get through the queue, bypass barriers or fences, or something like that” – said Terinks.

In addition, various provocateurs have recently become very active. Among them are both covid deniers and opponents of vaccination, and those who have watched, most often, videos filmed in Russia in social networks, in which a person films and provokes store staff and guards.

“Such persons, going to the store, shoot a video or broadcast on social networks, cause a conflict, then express accusations or protests, or simply try to stand out,” Terinks said.

The head of the company noted that Koblenz drošiba trains its security guards how not to succumb to provocations and resolve the conflict in a calm way.

“At the same time, we teach employees that the honor of the Koblenz drošiba security officer must not be compromised, and personal accusations or attacks cannot be ignored,” Terinks explained, urging residents to understand as the guards perform their duties.

In turn, the director of the security department of the security company Grifs AG, Guntis Pastors, admitted that conflict situations when a person without a covid certificate wants to get to a place of trade occurs several times a day.

“At the very beginning, when we started checking the certificates, there were a lot of conflict situations, now there are fewer, because people are used to where they can go without certificates, and where not,” Pastors said.

In addition, there are cases when people want to go to the place of trade, possibly with someone else’s certificate.

“For example, they show a certificate, personal data on which does not match those on an identity card, passport, ID-card. A person is not allowed in and is warned that this cannot be done,” Pastors said.

There were also cases when people showed only a certificate, but did not provide an identity document, saying that they had forgotten them at home.
