It seems that Goran Vesić does not plan to leave his consoling political function of the deputy mayor of Belgrade soon, because big “projects” like the Belgrade metro should remain behind him.
Vesić announced that the construction of the second line of the Belgrade metro would begin in 2023, and “at that time, the first line, whose construction will begin in November this year and end in 2028, will be largely underway.”
– Belgrade will have the first metro line in 2028 and the second line in 2030. It will be remembered for centuries who built the subway. It’s my dream and it drives me. As President Vučić says, “we all have our dreams.” What you dream about tells you why you are involved in politics. We dream this dream together. And we will fulfill it. I can guarantee that. I am not one of those who cannot confirm or deny anything – Vesić wrote on his Facebook.
Vesic sent a clear message
that he would dig with his hands and feet
to stay in the City.

However, President Vučić does not have such ambitious plans for the current deputy Zoran Radojičić, and he confirmed this with the decision to appoint Šapić to the position of mayor. And already in March, as Direktno.rs was the first to write about it. The founder of the Center for Local Self-Government, Nikola Jovanović, believes that Vesić, but also the president of SPAS, Aleksandar Šapić, will not be the mayors (or eternal deputies) of Belgrade.
– Vesić clearly sent a message that he would dig with his hands and feet to stay in the City. That he is not interested in the Vučić-Šapić agreement. Who has the heart to tell them that there will be none of them…? – says Jovanović.
Vesić is really not doing well in realizing his dreams, since Vučić is facing an obvious and constant drop in his rating in Belgrade, and he will try to sacrifice the deputy mayor in about a month.
He will appoint Aleksandar Šapić, the president of SPAS, as the first man in the capital, who, as Direktno.rs has learned, will be the only candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party in the Belgrade elections.
The Belgrade metro will hardly “take out the stains” and save Vesić from public opinion, which has not been with him for a long time. The citizens know what he did wrong and what kind of legacy he will leave in Belgrade, but also Vučić himself, who obviously understood that this kind of management of the capital of Serbia is bad even for him.
