The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance come back on August 15, 2021. The event, which represents the culmination of Monterey Car Week (6-15 August), reaches its 70th edition this year and was canceled last year due to the pandemic. It is the most important world event dedicated to vintage cars and, we remind you, it takes place on the green of the 18th hole of the Pebble Beach Golf Links, in California.
The title of Best of Show it is the highest recognition for a car with collectible value and around the Concorso d’Eleganza revolves around exclusive events such as the prestigious auction organized by RM Sotheby’s. THEn agenda there are also the “Concours de Lemons”, an exhibition of restored rare models that have had little commercial success in their history, and the “Italian Competition”, which takes place on August 15 and in past editions has welcomed about 1000 Italian models.
Below we summarize everything there is to see this year, how and when. Furthermore, together with the protagonists of this summer, we remember those of the last edition before Covid.
How to see the Concorso d’Eleganza
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has always been an exclusive event (the entrance ticket costs 500 dollars or about 420 euro at the current exchange rate), but this year it will not be possible for Italians to go in person due to the strong limitations due to Covid. Residents in Italy, in fact, cannot travel to the USA for tourist reasons due to the “travel ban” imposed by the American administration.
The entry ban applies to travelers who have been in Italy (and in many other European countries) in the 14 days prior to departure. The only exceptions are for US residents and people of American nationality.
The most beautiful luxury cars up for auction
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, as always, is anticipated by the auction held by RM Sotheby’s (this year from 12 to 14 August). There are many rare pieces ready to enter the garage of a new owner. One of these is the 1970 Porsche 917K driven in that year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans and starring in the film of the same name with Steve McQueen. The car has been completely restored and its value is around 15 million euros.

On sale there are also very rare Ferraris such as one of the 10 F60s worth almost 3 million euros, a 250 GT LWB Berlinetta “Tour de France” for 4.5 million euros, a 410 Superamerica Coupé Series 3 for over 5.5 million euros. € and a € 6.5 million 275 GTB Competizione.
Speaking of rarity, there is also a Mercedes AMG CLK GTR. This is the ninth of the 20 specimens ever produced and its value is estimated between 7.2 and 8.5 million euros.
The Italian historians on the green
The organizers have already announced the presence of several brands and historic cars linked to Italy. Pininfarina exhibits historic models and modern concepts, while the Iso Rivolta, the Genoese company active from 1948 to 1974, is revisited. The 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Countach is also celebrated with an exhibition of the most emblematic models and the LP500 prototype.
At Pebble Beach there is also space to observe the first prototypes of electric cars of the late 19th century and the racing cars signed by Harry Miller, capable of conquering numerous victories at the Indianapolis 500.
Speaking of concept, the Audi Skysphere and the Lincoln Aviator Shinola are expected. The first is a luxury carbiolet prototype with electric powertrain and autonomous driving. The design is inspired by the Horch 853A, the German discovery presented in 1938 also characterized by a long bonnet and a sleek rear.

The Lincoln, (Ford’s American luxury brand), on the other hand, is a show car created in collaboration with the luxury brand Shinola. The Aviator SUV has been modified to be even more refined in the lines and welcoming in the passenger compartment. If the special Aviator were to please the public, Lincoln could start series production of the model. There is also no shortage of brands such as Aston Martin and McLaren with their latest models at the show.
The 2019 edition
The last Concorso d’Eleganza is marked 2019. 20 thousand people participated and won the title of Best of Show 2019 Bentley 8-Litre del 1931 with bodywork J Gurney Nutting & Co.
That year Lamborghini presented five Miura specials and two Huracan and Aventador special series to the competition. For the occasion, the McLaren Speedster and the Bugatti Centodieci were also presented, the heir to the EB110 produced in 10 units and also tested by us on the Nardò track.
