Companies can request support up to 112 euros

Although the 2022 State Budget was failed, the Government committed to increase the minimum wage. The national minimum wage increased, in 2022, from 665 euros to 705 euros.

To help companies, the Government created a compensation for employers who have workers in their service to receive this amount.

Minimum wage increased to 705 euros and employers can ask for support

Companies that had workers who received the minimum wage in 2021 (665 euros) and started to receive the new value (705 euros), can access Government support, which is a maximum of 112 euros for each worker.

For companies whose workers received more than 665 euros, but less than 705 euros, the compensation is 56 euros per worker. But there is an exception to this rule: if this salary higher than the old minimum wage, but lower than the new one, was provided for in a collective labor regulation instrument (revised or amended and 2021), the support now granted is 112 euros per worker, reveals the ECO.

New Minimum Salary: Companies can ask for support up to 112 euros

Compensation for the increase in the minimum wage can take place between February 1st and March 1st. To this end, a digital platform is being prepared for this purpose (Pplware will publish this information as soon as the platform becomes available).

This compensation will be paid by IAPMEI and by Turismo de Portugal to employers and individuals.

Payment of this subsidy will be made “within a maximum period of 30 days from the end of the term”, that is, until March. In order to receive this subsidy, employers will have to have their tax and contributory situation regularized.

According to the Minister of Economy, Pedro Siza Vieira, this measure should cost the State coffers “around 100 million euros”.
