In the last two days, the Romanian Police under the leadership of DIICOT carried out a large-scale action that targeted a large network of cigarette smugglers.
In Arad, Alba, Bihor, Cluj, Caraş-Severin, Gorj, Timiş and Bucharest, 157 searches took place, as a result of which weapons, cigarettes and large sums of money were seized.
23 individuals were detained on charges of forming an organized criminal group, smuggling and money laundering.
The logistics of the network were severely affected, with 622 cars and freight vehicles, over 400 real estate, including land, as well as shares or shares held in 18 companies.
Obviously, this action is the consequence of the assassination in Arad against the businessman Ioan Crişan.
Investigators appear to know that the threads to the perpetrators are being smuggled with cigarettes and by pressing in this way, they are seeking information on the murder.
Yes, the Police and DIICOT have demonstrated the organizational capacity to implement this broad action.
Just as it is not at all easy to set up such a network, so it is not at all easy to implement such a plan in which secrecy is the key to the operation.
This network stretched from Ukraine to Serbia and from Hungary to the Republic of Moldova, heading to Western countries as a place of sale.
This network did not come out of nowhere.
It was created over many years and, like any smuggling network, was based on the underground and the purchased protection of police officers, prosecutors, customs officers and, last but not least, politicians.
The two leaders of the network managed to disappear about two hours before the start of the operation, which shows that this criminal octopus has not exhausted its resources.
Who warned them? I don’t think we’ll find out soon.
What we do know is that the money from cigarette smuggling is “countless.”
The “retail” price of a pack of cigarettes is 10-12 times higher than the “ex-work” price, ie at the factory gate.
You realize how much is enough of this colossal difference, selling their consciences.
Arad, like many other border counties, has been known for many years about the “fraternities” between criminals, representatives of law enforcement institutions and politicians.
If there was no border, surely they would have invented it …
