COMMENTARY Lelia Munteanu. 5.2 million vaccinated in Israel by mid-March. Exclusive to Pfizer

January 11, 2021

About a week ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu triumphantly announced that one million Moderna vaccines were on their way to Israel. It seems to have been a ploy in the negotiations with Pfizer, meant to put pressure on them. And it has worked since there is information that the Jerusalem government is granting exclusivity to Pfizer. The reason: keeping the post-vaccination study “clean.” it is not yet known what will happen to the millions of doses paid to Moderna.

It is certain that vaccinations are moving forward. Pfizer is committed to delivering hundreds of thousands of doses weekly. In turn, Israel has pledged to administer 170,000-200,000 vaccines daily. If Pfizer keeps its word (there is no reason to doubt), by mid-March – before March 23, the day of the early elections – 5.2 million Israelis will be vaccinated. Unfortunately, not children under 16, which means that it will not reach, however, the coveted immunity of the herd. But life will be easier, because, based on the vaccination certificate, it will be possible to reopen various activities – theaters, restaurants, malls and, obviously, those related to tourism.
