COMMENT: The ending government is throwing human lives overboard. He climbs the title of worst in covid again

The Covid pandemic is long and tiring. The disinterested public no longer enjoys and finds lockdowns or any other form of restriction annoying. On the other hand, there is the need and duty of governments to provide their citizens with conditions so that they or their loved ones do not die. And against the background of the massive spread of the deadly disease, comfort must go hand in hand.

No need to go far for examples. The Netherlands will introduce the first partial closure in Western Europe over the weekend. For example, part of Austria is considering a lockdown for the unvaccinated, who cannot go to restaurants, cafes, theaters, music clubs or hairdressers.

Slovakia wants, for example, a law according to which the local authorities should be able to order companies and entrepreneurs to make the entry of employees or customers into operations conditional on a covid certificate. And the measures are tightening in other countries as well. The numbers of those infected have been breaking after more than a year and a half since the beginning of the pandemic.

In many countries, therefore, it is common to introduce compulsory vaccination for some citizens, especially those practicing the health care profession, as well as charging for tests for the unvaccinated, or even their non-recognition. In short, the states are trying to get as many people as possible to be vaccinated, because it is the only weapon we have against the covid.

Yes, vaccination is not 100% effective, but it has been unquestionably proven to reduce the risk of infection and, above all, hospitalization and death. If someone claims otherwise, it simply proves that they do not even understand elementary statistics. And it must be admitted that we will probably no longer wash out the covid and stay with us. However, the aim is not to reduce the number of infected to zero, but to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and deaths. Just avoid overloading hospitals.

To do this, however, it is necessary to take steps that should be crucial and drastic at the end of the next pandemic wave. That is, steps that the ending Czech government has not taken to date. Instead of strict measures, the government today transferred responsibility (hence the anger of the citizens) to the newly emerging cabinet. Instead of testing with PCR tests, illogical testing with antigen tests will be repeated in schools.

And that’s probably the end of it. Although the recent tightening of measures in restaurants and the shortening of the duration of the tests have forced some people to be vaccinated, this is still not enough. These measures have not brought any other greater effect, and if the government is betting on a new “brutal campaign” with great pomp, then it is failing. The Ministry of Health can’t do marketing, it has done it several times in the past, and even now it will be no different.

Pictures like cuts from cigarette boxes are really rough, but nowadays quite common. Every news site in the last year and a half has brought so many similar pictures from hospitals that they should have impressed who they were supposed to impress. However, we would probably like a lot that the resort would finally deal with, for example, disinformation about vaccines, which is currently one of the biggest problems, due to which vaccination coverage is rising at the rate of a tired sloth.

For the fourth time, the Czechia is entering a period when infections are increasing at a rate of more than 10,000 a day. We had a similar situation last October, this year in January and then at the turn of February and March. However, each such situation was accompanied by strict measures, whether in the form of closing shops or restricting travel, etc.

If the ending cabinet relied on the fact that this autumn will be different thanks to vaccination, it does not look like that yet. Many people will certainly appreciate that closing deals and services or a complete lockdown is not a solution, according to the ending or future government, but at the same time no one has come up with a concept that would stop the current growing wave.

The only consolation may be the fact that the numbers currently hospitalized are lower than in the period from October to April. In relation to the daily increase in those infected, the situation has improved compared to last year, but on the other hand, the curve is rising again, and is worryingly similar to that of last October. And it needs to be stopped before it’s too late.

The government’s dilettantism thus continues to broadcast, and even at the end of the election period, the Ministry of Health does not show what is expected of it. Due to the absolute absence of any system solution, the Czechia has long been one of the “worst in covid” states and the current situation shows that nothing will change until the cabinet is replaced.

At the same time, the situation is more serious than it might seem at first glance. For example, Russia, Slovakia or Austria report record numbers of infected and in some cases dead per day. In a distorted way, the situation there may seem worse, because while in our country several dozen infected people die every day, in Russia it is regularly more than a thousand.

In a cumulative comparison per million inhabitants, however, the Czechia is significantly worse than Russia, Slovakia, the USA and practically the rest of the world. Few states are as bad at pandemics as we are. And today’s relinquishment of the government’s responsibility for the next necessary steps only underscores that the ending cabinet simply failed to manage the pandemic and threw human lives overboard.
