The design process of the new IC5 electric train has reached such a stage that the supplier Alstom has produced a 1:1 scale model, equipped with seats, tables and other interior.
This is stated by DSB in a press release.
The IC5 trains will replace the IC4 trains, IC3 trains and Øresund trains, which are being phased out continuously, and will run as both InterCityLyn, InterCity and regional trains.
Flemming Jensen, managing director of DSB, believes that Danes can expect shorter journey times and better comfort.
“It is a modern interior design with better information for customers. In terms of operation, it has a very high quality, which means that there will be fewer trains that will experience errors,’ he says.
“We have prioritized that you have good legroom and two armrests between the seats. It is very reminiscent of an open, bright room.’
DSB and the French train manufacturer Alstom have an agreement for the delivery of 100 electric train sets in the years 2025-2029.
But the director cannot set an exact date for when the trains will start running.
“The agreement is that the first trains will be delivered in the middle of 2025. After that, there is a period of test runs so that the operation works as it should,” says Flemming Jensen.
The purpose of the model is to test the train’s functionality and design against different groups, for example users with reduced mobility, it says.
At the same time, DSB will use the model to prepare the training of DSB’s staff and show Danes what they can look forward to in the finished train.
Flemming Jensen says that the trains will be delivered so that they fit in with Banedanmark’s upgrade of train tracks, signaling system and electrification.
“It also requires a reconstruction of the main railway station in Aarhus. The rails must be lowered because there must be room for catenary wires. It’s a puzzle,’ he says.
“Already today you will be able to drive on sections that are already electrified. As the electrification is rolled out, it will be possible to use all the train sets’.
