Jarl Magnus Riiber was number four and only the second best Norwegian in the provisional competition round in jumping before the World Cup combined in Val di Fiemme.
Riiber jumped 102 meters and ended up in the place behind Espen Bjørnstad, who with a jump of 103 meters became the best Norwegian. The brothers Akito and Yoshito Watabe became doubly Japanese. The former jumped as far as Bjørnstad, with slightly worse conditions and a finely tuned style.
Riiber jumped from a lower ledge than the others in the top tier and got the compensation for the most length points, but he lost on style and wind compensation.
Kasper Moen Flatla was number 14, Andreas Skoglund 22 and Magnus Krog 25, while Jens Luraas Oftebro and Jørgen Graabak finished in joint 29th place.
The provisional competition round will be used as a basis if the jumping race on Friday cannot be completed. In that case, Bjørnstad starts 11 seconds behind the leader in cross-country skiing, Riiber 17 seconds behind.
Thursday’s race also counts as qualification for Friday’s World Cup race, which will be the first since the turn of the year. All the 50 who got a place can join then.
There is an individual World Cup race also on Sunday, team sprint on Saturday.
