A pandemic had to happen for Cold Beer to perform on the main stage, He said Mile Kekin from the main stage of this year’s Exit Festival.

Currently, the most famous active regional band mostly had their performances at this festival in Novi Sad fusion bini and that long after midnight. They proved, however, that evening that they had a place on the main stage, because they were listened to with equal enthusiasm by both domestic and foreign visitors.

Currently, punks from Croatia are preparing the biggest concert so far in Belgrade, on August 21 at Tasmajdan.

I guess that’s how it all started…

And it all started in 1987 in the western Zagreb suburb of Gajnica when four friends Mile Kekin, Suba, Teddy and Zoki gathered. The first public appearance took place the following year, which is taken as the year of the beginning of their existence.

One of the first ideas for the band’s name was Coyotes, but it didn’t happen, because as the Cold Beer frontman told Balkanrock a few years ago yet we preferred beer to beasts.

In May 1988, Hladno pivo landed at a scout rally in the birthplace of Josip Broz Tito, Kumrovec, where they played for the first time in front of an audience.

We don’t remember that first concert very well anymore. But there’s one picture circulating the internet – we looked on stage like a mix of metalheads, punks and random passersby, Kekin said a long time ago for our portal.

In 1992, Hladno pivo performed as a pre-band of the legendary band KUD Idijoti, and a year later they released their first album, “Giant“. Even today, every Cold Beer concert ends with the song KUD Idijota “When the sun sets again”.

Aleksandar Dragaš, who was the manager of Cold Beer in the first years of their existence, wrote in the author’s text for “Jutarnja” that he knew back in 1992 that he would young punks could be something.

And so it was. As early as October 1994, they were the front group of the Ramones group at the Sports Hall in Trešnjevka.

In February 1995, they recorded their second album entitled “G. A. D.”Which included, among others, the songs“ Rigoletto ”,“ Moral dilemmas of BMW owners ”and“ From waking up to a diary ”.

In March 1997, the band recorded their third album. “Ten, With the eternal concert hit “I don’t love you”, but also with more underestimated songs like “Anorexic” and “The theme is a woman”.

New sound and small screens

Album “Victory”They published in 1999. Ska, heavy metal, folk and jazz rhythms appear on it as a complete novelty. From that album, trumpet player Stipe Mađor, who has been an associate member of the group since 1997, becomes a permanent member.

In mid-2002, Hladno pivo recorded the anthem of the Croatian national football team for the World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

At the end of 2002, the album “Slap”Which promoted the fight against domestic violence and the threat to human rights in general. In the number “It’s hard to be cool (when you’re here)”And the video for the same from that album was a guest of the Bosnian rapper Edo Maajka.

In the break between the two albums, the group made music for a humorous TV series. “Bitange and princesses”In which the singer and frontman of the group Mile appeared in the role of Sasa Erotoman, while the other members appeared as extras.

Cold beer is commercial!

In the spring of 2007, the album “Complaint book, On which some new instruments were used, such as the organ in the song “Kaze stari” and the accordion in the song “Sreća”. That was the first time they went out loud and reprimanded mainstream i commercial.

That feeling betrays punk culminated in 2011, when they released the album “The world of glamor“.

And then followed a completely punk response to that in the form of verses I have a T-shirt against capital, Cold Beer is commercial. Album “Closed days”On which the song“ T-shirt ”appeared, was released in 2015. On it, the punks from Gajnice again had a lot to say about the current socio-political situation, especially in the song “Firma”, which talks about workers who lost their jobs after the privatization of the company.

They are currently preparing a new album, and for now the songs “And this will pass”, “Rainy Sunday” and “Carpe diem” have been released.

After so many years of existence and in accordance with their name, “Ingemar Stenmark from Gajnice” with the band begins cooperation with the Zagreb brewery “Medvedgrad” and the musicians get their craft lager, which is called, of course, “Cold Beer”.

What is Cold Beer to us?

In more than three decades of existence, we could say that Cold Beer has always been on the right side and has always fought against national apathy.

Socio-political comments were served carefully packaged in energetic punk arrangements, sending messages not only to their 30-year-old peers, but also to young people who are just entering punk-rock waters and who need direction that will prevent this from happening. Balkan barrel of gunpowder one day it explodes again in the chaos of intolerance and incitement to war.

A song cannot change the world, Kekin said in an interview with Balkanrock, but added:

It can affect the worldview at least a little, especially young people. It can help you to look at life differently, especially in small environments where it is difficult to be different. Music won’t change the world, but it can change a man a little bit.

Little Man Band

This is a band that the region grew up with and that grew up with the region. The moment Kekin’s peers and team left the dormitories and found permanent jobs, then Cold Beer with I live at home like a kidney in tallow switched to I take my hat off to that terrible hero up on the cloud, but my soul is not so timid that I will love him out of fear.

A they also sang something loving, not just because the kids cum on it, but because love, just like rebellion, is an inevitable part of life little man, which, as Kekin said in an interview with Balkanrock, the band ‘s target audience, because we are all small when we get off the stage.

After all that, Cold Beer is first and foremost a concert – it’s jumping, silent, throwing beer in the air, singing out loud with the person next to you even though you don’t know each other, but you understand each other perfectly well, because maybe that’s the person old man said she missed her at least some ideals”- and that is all we have in the previous year was missing.
