Mitsubishi’s regular fleet has long since said goodbye to the range of the Japanese manufacturer, but since Mitsubishi is part of the Renault-Nissan concern, it is worth trying every opportunity to sell some more cars, even if it is just a different badge. The old Colt was one of Mitsubishi’s most successful models for many years, and now it’s back after a decade of hiatus. The previous Colt shared a platform with the Smart ForFour, but now it doesn’t, as it’s a facelifted Renault Clio with Mitsubishi badges and a revised grille.

This is also nothing new, as recently the Mitsubishi ASX was created from the Captur in the same way. The reason for doing this was explained by Frank Krol, head of Mitsubishi Europe. It’s about the fact that the brand continues to appear on the European market in one of the better-selling segments and that they count on the loyalty of Mitsubishi customers, who will be satisfied with these “intermediate” solutions until a real new generation arrives.

The Colt coincides with the Clio facelift and basically has the same lights and grille, only the honeycomb and a few elements on the grille are different, even the top end of the grille that extends into the bonnet is diamond-shaped, with the Mitsubishi triangle stamped underneath. The only difference on the back is the Mitsubishi inscription (instead of the logo) and the Colt badge, everything else is identical to the Clio. The lack of a logo makes the reversing camera that much more obvious, which many will mistake for the boot button hidden in the bumper above the nameplate.

The interior is also expectedly the same – 7- to 10-inch digital gauges, depending on trim, and 7- or 9.3-inch infotainment. In fact, the only change inside is the switch between Renault and Mitsubishi’s logo.

There are three engines – the classic three-cylinder with 48 kW (65 hp), which the Clio does not have, which means that the basic Colt will be slightly cheaper than the Clio, the turbo version of the engine has 66 kW (90 hp), and both engines have a five-speed manual gearbox . The most powerful version is the hybrid, which has 107 kW (145 hp), the same as the Clio. E-Tech Hybrid.

Mitsubishi won’t doctor the equipment – Pure, Intense and Instyle will be available with different wheel sizes from 15-inch steel to 17-inch alloy and will differ in some cosmetic additions. From October onwards, Mitsubishi will try to convince customers mainly with a five-year warranty and a slightly lower price than the Clio.
