Circulation of trains on the Northern Line resumed after a fire cut – Portugal

The “unrestricted” circulation of trains on the northern line, which had been cut off due to the reactivation of the Ourém fire, was restored from 8:12 pm, an official source from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) told Lusa this Sunday.

“The fire between Caxarias and Albergaria dos Doze was brought under control in the vicinity of the railway track”, said the same source, referring that “the voltage was restored” and “normal circulation was restored without restrictions from 8:12 pm”.

Railway circulation on the northern line had been cut since 3:18 pm due to the reactivation of the fire in Caxarias, municipality of Ourém, district of Santarém, and Albergaria dos Doze, municipality of Pombal, district of Leiria.

By 19:00, five trains were stranded along the Northern Line and CP tried to arrange buses to transfer passengers by road.

However, with the re-establishment of circulation, it turned out not to be necessary to activate the road transfer and these five trains will resume their path, according to an official source at CP.

The fire in the municipality of Ourém had been resolved on Saturday and was reactivated this afternoon. On Friday, the northern line was also cut due to the same fire, which forced CP to provide road transfers for passengers on the trains that had to stop.
