Portuguese cinemas suffered a 75.55 percent drop in audience and revenue last year compared to 2019, corresponding to 11.7 million fewer viewers in the theater.
The Instituto do Cinema Audiovisual (ICA) indicates that in 2020 cinemas had 3.77 million viewers, when in 2019 15.5 million tickets had been issued.
The cinemas were closed between mid-March and early June. As Lusa recalls, the reopening of the rooms took place gradually over the following weeks, but the drop in audience and revenue varied monthly between 60 and 90 percent, whether due to the retraction of consumption by the Portuguese, by the reduction of sessions or the offer of films in theaters.
