The label ‘gaming’ does not mean that it has LED lights in each corner. A ‘gaming’ device is one that has enough power to enjoy the latest games. ASUS knows this and the new ROG Flow X13 presented at CES 2021 is one of the most interesting devices of this fair for gamers.
We are before the ASUS ‘first 2-in-1 convertible in the’ Republic of Gamers’ range. A laptop that incorporates a 13-inch screen capable of rotating 360º and that inside incorporates the new mobile processor AMD Ryzen 9 5980 HS, one of the flagships of the Newly Introduced AMD Ryzen Mobile 5000 Series.

16GB RAM and optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080

The ROG Flow X13 comes with a panel protected with Gorilla Glass, touch and with support for stylus pens. ASUS offers it in two versions, one with 4K resolution and one with FullHD resolution and 120 Hz. Both models have a 16:10 aspect ratio, are Adaptive Sync compliant, and have been Pantone validated for color rendering.
Inside we find the new AMD Ryzen 9 5980HS next to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650. This is a very interesting combination for a 13-inch convertible, where it is very rare to find such a powerful CPU. In fact, the performance of the GeForce 1650 can even be clouded by that of AMD’s own processor, manufactured in 7 nanometers and clocked at 3.1 GHz or 4.5 GHz in Turbo.

For RAM we have 16 GB LPDDR4X and 1 TB SSD storage. The battery promises up to 10 hours of continuous play and we have a 100W USB C charger to charge 60% in 39 minutes. At the sound level, ASUS includes two speakers with Dolby Atmos technology and noise cancellation assisted by artificial intelligence.
But one of the most curious additions to this ROG Flow X1 is the ability to pair with an external GPU station. ASUS will sell the device alongside an external NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 for desktop equivalent performance. ASUS offers a eGPU connector that dedicates its 63 GBps of bandwidth for graphics, achieving better performance than Thunderbolt, according to the company.
This XG Mobile adapter includes a USB 3.2 port and a 280W AC adapter, to charge both the Flow X13 and the graphics.

The Flow X13 comes with three heatsinks and fan outlets. Additionally, it incorporates liquid metal to help cool the device.
ROG Flow X13 versions and price
The new ASUS ROG Flow X13 is now available to pre-order, although the price of the convertible is not known separately at the moment. The ROG XG Mobile bundle is available, which includes the ROG Flow X13 with the adapter and the NVIDIA RTX 3080 for $ 2,999.
