Chambers forced to hire drivers to take doctors to the homes of the sick

You professionals who make home consultations will start to ride in cars driven by drivers – or taxis – hired by the municipalities. According to “Jornal de Notícias”, this is one of the problems that appear in a vast list of constraints pointed out by the mayors to the Government within the scope of decentralization of health.

Despite the Government having established that the documents for the transfer of competences in the area of Health and Education had to be signed until today, more than 70% of the mayors did not sign them. The municipalities do not accept the transfer because they have encountered several problems: dilapidated buildings, others without a lease or without registration e discrepancies in transfers of funds and staff.

The problems detected by the municipalities were already transmitted, on March 8, to the ministers Marta Temido, of Health, and Alexandra Leitão, of the extinct Ministry of Modernization by the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP).
