Prague – This year’s production of passenger cars should increase by about ten to 15 percent compared to last year. However, the levels of 2019, which were not affected by the coronavirus epidemic, will probably not be reached by car manufacturers this year. This follows from the estimates of experts in the automotive industry. Last year, passenger car production fell 19.2 percent to 1.15 million vehicles due to the contagion. At today’s annual press conference, the Association of the Automotive Industry will publish more detailed information on last year’s economic results and performance of the Czech automotive industry and on the current situation.

The largest Škoda Auto produced 749,579 cars in its Czech plants last year, ie 17.4 percent less than in 2019. The increase in its market share on the EU markets and sales growth in Russia and Turkey contributed to mitigating the effects. At the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech plant in Nošovice, production fell by 22.9 percent to 238,750 vehicles. Kolín’s TPCA also reduced production by 21.7 percent to 164,572 vehicles due to preparations for the expansion of the plant.

This year’s production is affected by the lack of some parts, mainly chips, but also raw materials for the production of plastic parts. According to experts, the situation could not improve until the end of the year.
