Company Canon has many types of products in its production portfolio. One of them is the cameras, which, however, received a severe blow as they switched to taking photos with the help of telephones. One way to help this area could be virtual reality. Canon is developing a social platform using virtual reality, where its technology can also be applied. It bears the name Kokomo and a camera was used in its development Canon EOS R5 with 8K video support and lens Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8L Dual Fisheye.

Locations in Malibu, California, New York and Hawaii were filmed with these cameras. People can then meet in virtual reality in these places in photorealistic quality. The so-called ImmersiveCall they are supposed to bring people a conversation experience with others that standard video calls can’t. However, it is not yet clear what hardware Kokomo will actually be compatible with, and Canon also says that this platform may never even appear. In any case, the accompanying video also shows the Canon EOS M series APS-C cameras with a standard lens, so Kokomo doesn’t seem to work only with the six-seater EOS R5. But we do not know exactly how it will work.
