Canon is upgrading its popular Speedlite transmitter

Canon Europe announces the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) – an upgrade to the popular ST-E3-RT transmitter. Enabling wireless flash synchronization and control of several Speedlite flashes – set at a distance of up to 30 m – this new transmitter gives professionals more creative freedom, both in the studio and in the natural environment.

It supports key features of the recently introduced Speedlite EL-1, and also provides new features when used with previously introduced RT Speedlite flashes – including wireless (radio) synchronization with another curtain.

Other new features of the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) include support for 1/8192 low-power micro-flash on the Speedlite EL-1, and for photographers using a manual flash, the transmitter boasts a new FE Memory mode .

High quality, flexible recording

Thanks to the introduction of wireless radio broadcasting and synchronization with the second curtain, the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) fires the flash at the end of a long exposure. This results in photographers creating images that look natural when shooting moving subjects. The ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) offers this feature as a new wireless option, providing users with flexibility in a wide range of shooting scenarios.

When shooting with a wide aperture and / or high ISO speed, the flash level can often overwhelm the subject and the scene. This forces photographers to change settings or settings, causing them to eventually lose the look they wanted. When paired with the Speedlite EL-1 flash, the 1/8192 micro flash of this transmitter adds beautiful, subtle shades of light without disturbing the atmosphere and ambient light reflected on the set. This feature is perfect for fashion and portrait photographers who want to capture scenes in a natural atmosphere.

Upgrading the flexible qualities of the original transmitter, the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2) supports FE Memory – providing a faster and more convenient manual flash setup. By eliminating the need for multiple test shots, professionals now have the freedom to perform the initial shot in E-TTL mode, allowing them to record E-TTL flash settings. Users can then switch Speedlite flashes to manual mode to allow manual adjustment where needed – while retaining the original E-TTL settings.

Maximum extension of product life

Canon Europe plans to offer a variable update for existing ST-E3-RT users that will include new additional features and capabilities of the ST-E3-RT (Ver.2). Additional information and dates regarding this service will be available at a later date.
