Bypass Stockholm at least five billion more expensive

The motorway project Förbifart Stockholm risks being both significantly delayed and more expensive than expected, reports branchaktuellt.se.

More water is leaking into the tunnel system than expected and now the Land and Environment Court demands that the tunnels be further sealed. Without a seal, the drainage of groundwater is feared to be greater than what the project has a permit for.

These new requirements are estimated to increase the cost of the project by between five and nine billion kronor and delay it by several years, from 2030 to 2034, writes Branschaktuellt.

Bypass Stockholm is an underground route for the E4 that will run from Kungens Kurva south of Stockholm to Häggvik, north of the city. The new section is just over 20 km long, most of it in a tunnel. The project has been running since 2006.
