BYD teamed up with lidar manufacturer – DRIVE

Autonomous driving is possible without lidars, but engineers often lean towards this solution. The number of such devices installed in cars is growing, as is the number of sensor projects.

Shenzhen-based RoboSense (Suteng Innovation Technology) and automotive giant BYD have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement. RoboSense will improve its products with support from BYD, and the automaker will receive a supplier of advanced lidars on its way to autonomous models and advanced assistance systems. RoboSense also develops artificial intelligence algorithms and chipsets for machine perception in both transportation and simple robotics.

RoboSense has announced its participation in the January CES 2022 in Las Vegas. Among other things, it will showcase the RS-LiDAR M1, “the first mainstream automotive solid-state micromechanical lidar,” and its next-generation sibling RS-Helios.

Horizon Robotics develops driver assistance systems and complexes for autonomous vehicles, including shuttles, robotic taxis, and autonomous delivery.

Recently RoboSense signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Beijing-based Horizon Robotics. The partners intend to accelerate “large-scale implementation of high-end autonomous driving solutions.” Horizon is already working with BYD (and also with Audi, Bosch, Changan, Chery, Continental, Coast Autonomous, GAC, Hongqi, SAIC), so a triple cooperation in the drone field is emerging. More advanced lidars will play a role here in advancing the technology. Recent examples of attention to this area are developments by Argo AI, Valeo and Yandex.
