Burkhard Eling takes over as CEO of DACHSER

There has been a generational change in management at the logistics giant: from 1 January this year, Burkhard Eling has become the CEO and CEO of DACHSER Logistics Service, the head of the Board of Directors and a spokesperson. The newly appointed specialist will manage the company’s central departments, Human Resources, Marketing, as well as the central Key Account Management, and Corporate Governance & Compliance internal divisions.

Eling will follow the position of Bernhard Simon, who will serve as the head of the Supervisory Board of the family-owned company from mid-2021.

As of January 1, 2021, Burkhard Eling became the CEO, Chief Executive Officer and Spokesperson of the DACHSER Logistics Service Provider.

In addition to Berhard Simon, Michael Schilling (COO), former Chief Operating Officer of DACHSER Road Logistics’ business unit, will join the Supervisory Board. From January 1, 2021, further personnel changes will take place within the DACHSER Board of Directors: Two former managers have been promoted to the logistics service provider’s operational board who have successfully demonstrated their leadership positions for years: Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) and Alexander Tonn COO Road Logistics.

Robert Erni also joined the Board of Directors on September 1, 2020, leaving the company DSV Panalpina, joining the company and taking over the position of new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the logistics service provider. The last member of the five-member Board of Directors is Edoardo Podestá, who has been successfully managing the DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics business unit since 2019.

Eling, 49, joined DACHSER’s Finance, Legal and Tax Department in 2012 as Deputy Head. The following year, he joined the Board of Directors as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and has since headed the Strategic Idea and Innovation Management Program for all business units of the logistics provider. Eling holds a degree in economic engineering, Bilfinger SE came to the company from an international engineering and service group, where he previously held senior positions in controlling and internal audit, and was CFO of a U.S. subsidiary and an international facility management service provider. Eling started his career at the construction group Hochtief AG and Philipp Holzmann AG.

High level of expertise – Newly elected members of the Board of Directors:

Alexander Tonn is a new member of the Board of Directors as of January 1, 2021, who is responsible for the business developments of DACHSER’s European Logistics and Food Logistics network in the Road Logistics COO position. In addition to his work, he will continue to manage DACHSER’s European Logistics business in Germany. Tonn, 47, has been with the company for more than 20 years and, in addition to his various management positions, moved to DACHSER’s headquarters at DACHSER’s headquarters, where he was responsible for the international development of contract logistics.
Stefan Hohm, 48, will lead the newly created IT and Development business unit as Chief Development Officer (CDO). Hohm has worked for the company for 27 years and as an experienced manager, he managed the sites in Erfurt (Thuringia) and Hof (Upper Franconia). Most recently, he was corporate director of research and development for the logistics service provider and the company’s central unit, Corporate Solutions. In addition to developing the company’s IT department, it will also be responsible for the further international expansion of contract logistics.

Burkhard Eling’s former position as CFO will be followed by Robert Erni, who has a high level of financial management expertise in the international logistics market. From 1 January 2021, after a four-month implementation and transition period, he took over the position of Chief Financial Officer of DACHSER. Prior to joining DACHSER, Erni, 54, was a CFO of the Panalpina logistics services group for nearly seven years.

There is no change in DACHSER’s air and sea freight business, which has been led by Edoardo Podestà, COO Air & Sea Logistics since October 2019. Podestá, a 58-year-old Italian citizen with a Hong Kong branch, remained the managing director of DACHSER’s air and sea freight business. As a result of the successful construction of the Asian air and sea freight business, he was appointed Executive Director of the Asia Pacific region back in 2014. Podestá is led by an experienced DACHSER manager who continues to lead the global air and sea freight business. He joined the company in 2003 when he acquired the joint venture Züst Ambrosetti Far East Ltd.
