Brutal price increase is coming! From January, flour will be so expensive that buying a pound of bread will also hurt

Both energy and wage and fuel costs, as well as wheat prices, have risen dramatically. Therefore, the price of flour will increase by roughly 40%, which will also affect bakery products.

Zoltán Lakatos, President and CEO of Hajdú Gabona Zrt., Said to VG:

The price of high-quality wheat suitable for milling is around HUF 90,000 per tonne, and as no opposite effect can be seen, it can be expected that in January it will no longer be possible to find wheat on the market below HUF 100,000.

The fact that there is already very little free wheat on the market and that producers who still have stocks keep their goods in the direction of further price increases, writes agrokep.vg.hu.

According to the calculations of Zoltán Lakatos, if there is no wheat below 100 forints from January, then – taking into account the increase in energy, labor and fuel costs causing the above-mentioned increase in costs – they can only produce their expenses if they sell flour for 155 forints per kilo.

If given in the meantime, they would incur a loss, so we can expect a 40 percent increase in the transfer price.

In addition to flour, this will be present in baked goods, albeit to a lesser extent.

Zoltán Lakatos also talked about the price increases so far: the mills have already raised their prices twice this year, first by slightly less than 5 percent and then – although they wanted 10 percent – by 8 percent. And with this total increase of about 12-13 percent, the industry is not going anywhere.

He added that he had not seen such a price increase during his forty-year career.

From January, transfer prices must also explode, and not only in the milling industry, emphasized Zoltán Lakatos. He doesn’t even dare to think, “he added,” what happens if they can’t raise the price of flour to the indicated extent.
