Here are the innovations at Streamingdienst Disney + in December 2021 at a glance.
Highlights at Disney + in December
“A big jump” (from December 1st)
The drama series “A Big Leap” tells about second chances and what it means to pursue your own dreams and get back what you deserve. A group of diverse people who are beyond their happiness want to change their lives with the help of a reality dance show, but it may ruin their lives.
“The Last Duel” (from December 1st)
Jodie Comer delivers a masterly performance in this epic drama directed by hit director Ridley Scott. Based on real events from the last court-ordered duel in France, this film centers on the accusation of Marguerite de Carrouges (Comer), who alleges that Jacques LeGris (Adam Driver), a friend of her husband Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) of having been raped. To protect his honor and prove his wife’s innocence, de Carrouges challenges his friend LeGris to a life and death duel.
The fate of the three rests in the hands of a society that believes that the winner of this cruel duel will be determined by God. And should de Carrouges die in this fight, Marguerite will also be sentenced to death. At the side of LeGris is Ben Affleck as a scheming ally Gar de’Alençon. This visually stunning epic is based on Eric Jager’s book “The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France” and tells a gripping story about a courageous woman who is willing to risk her life to find the truth to bring to light – highly exciting until the last minute.
“Greg’s diary: Surrounded by idiots!” (From December 3rd)
Jeff Kinney’s hilarious and hugely popular book series comes to life in the brand new animated adventure Greg’s Diary: Surrounded by Idiots! We join the skinny but ambitious Greg Heffley as he does his hilarious and disastrous deeds as he tries to survive one of the most terrifying and embarrassing experiences in a child’s life: middle school. Greg does everything to survive after elementary school despite the rowdies and prepubescent girls, but he still feels invisible. When his attempt to “belong” backfires, Greg soon learns to appreciate the real meaning of friendship.
„Welcome to Earth“ (ab 8. Dezember)
It can seem that man has discovered and recorded every inch of the surface of our planet. But if you take a closer look, you realize that there is so much more to discover. The age of discovery is far from over! “Welcome to Earth”, a Disney + original from National Geographic, accompanies Oscar®-nominated Will Smith on an extraordinary, one-off adventure around the world. In doing so, he discovers the greatest wonders and most hidden secrets on earth. During this six-part series, Will is accompanied by elite explorers on this breathtaking journey and experiences first-hand the most exciting events on earth: volcanoes that roar softly, deserts that move beyond our perception or swarms of animals with a common consciousness. This blockbuster series combines impressive film technology with Will Smith’s infinite curiosity and enthusiasm for an exciting, sensory-robbing journey through the world.
“Ron is going wrong” (from December 15th)
“Ron goes wrong” by 20th Century Studios and Locksmith Animation is an animation pleasure full of good humor, action and cool B * bots, but also with a lot of heart! The focus of the story is Barney, a somewhat clumsy teenager, and his B * Bot Ron, who should actually be his new best friend “out of the box”. But Ron has some completely crazy malfunctions, which causes a lot of chaos, especially in times of social media, but also a lot of fun! And maybe that’s why the two of them get to know the wonderful uniqueness of a true friendship.
“Wonderful Years” (from December 22nd)
The story of the Williams family in the late 1960s from the perspective of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. With the life experience of an adult, Dean looks hopefully and humorously at his memories of the ups and downs of his youth in a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama. Friendships, laughter and lessons are always there.
“The Book of Boba Fett” (from December 29th)
“The Book of Boba Fett”, an exciting Star Wars adventure that was once surprisingly announced in the credits of the second season of “The Mandalorian”, takes the legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and the mercenary Fennec Shand into the underworld of the galaxy. You return to the Tatooine desert to lay claim to the area formerly ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his criminal syndicate. Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen star in “The Book of Boba Fett”. Executive producers are Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck are executive co-producers. John Bartnicki is the producer and John Hampian is the co-producer.
“Nomadland” (ab 31. December)
The closure of a plastering plant in a rural Nevada town suffers an economic collapse. This prompts Fern (Frances McDormand) to break down her tents and from now on to live as a modern nomad in her van. As a woman exploring life outside of conventional society, Fern soon discovers a resilience and ingenuity that allows her to gain experiences like she has never had before. On her way in this story of hope she meets other nomads who become mentors in her life in the midst of the vast, sometimes breathtaking landscape of the American West.
“Nomadland” by Searchlight Pictures and acclaimed director Chloé Zhao shows real nomads like Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells. Zhao wrote the script with care and empathy, which is based on Jessica Brother’s book “Nomads of Work: Survival in the USA in the 21st Century”. McDormand brings Fern to life with a powerful, authentic performance. With David Strathairn in a captivating role as the man Fern befriends, Nomadland is also a fascinating festival of humanity, independence and adventure.
