BMW will remove the letter “i” from its gasoline models

The range of BMW electric models is constantly growing, where the main characteristic of their names is that they start with the letter “i”, for example iX3, i4, i5 etc.

That or a growing offering of electrics could cause confusion with its existing gasoline-powered models, many of which share the same letter (ā€œiā€) in their alphanumeric names.

According to information, however, the German company will remove the “i” from the names of its models and will align them more with the form given to its electric models. So, for example, the 118i will become the 118, while similarly, the X6 M60i will become the X5 M60 xDrive, and so on.

BMW has used the letter “i” for more than 50 years, and it was originally added to indicate the use of fuel injection, from the word “injection”, when earlier models had a carburettor.
